Pillow Gladiator

Game Design | Balancing

We were asked to create a game with cards as a theme. After talking multiple concepts over we decided to take a small break. During this break we were talking about the show called "The Twilight Zone" and we came up with a what if scenario. The scenario was what would happen if in an alternate universe pillows would have a pillowfight? Would they not use humans as their pillows? With this crazy idea we found our concept for the second block, and thus Pillow Gladiator was created.

My job in Pillow Gladiator was as a designer & promoter. I thought of what mechanics had to be ingame and what would attract people.

The video you see above is one of the two introduction video's I created together with our artist, and shows the background story of our game.

Just-In Time

Game Design | Balancing | Art

My role here differs between creating & designing the mechanics, creating the story, doing level design and creating some small pixel art objects (for example a barrel or a crate).

This has been the first educational game that I have worked on in my career. The goal of the game is to help children from the age of 10 to 12 learn more about the time periods and the general idea of what happend during these time periods. This was the first time that I worked on a project that needed the right balance of education and entertainment. This was a harsh struggle, but a good learning experience non the less.

Elemental Concept

Game Design | Balancing

Elemental Concept is an emergent game that we made for a project at the Hanze University of Applied Sciences. The goal of the game was to create an emergent game. You are playing as an alien that has been captured and that is doing his best to escape his confinement. The alien is able to evolve by killing certain enemies and taking their "Element". By combining these elements you can unleash new attacks that will help you in your escape.  as we are using a random level generator the level layout will never be the same and you will need to find your way up the 5th level to finally escape this dangerous place.

The genre of the game is sci-fi, and therefore the atmosphere is meant to be sterile, medical and futuristic.
